REDI-PLATETM
Innovative
Steel Plate Cleaning and Coatings Application Technology
THE
FACILITIES:
At Blastech's
two plant locations we offer an innovative, automated system for cleaning
and application of specialized primer systems to steel plate with our REDI-PLATETM
systems. We also offer the unique Dry Plate Preservative
(DPP) system which preserves blast cleaned plates and eliminates the
use of oil to preserve the prepared surface.

THE
PROCESS:
-
Incoming plates are marked and
entered into REDI-PLATE data base materials management system.
Surface contaminates are
identified and removed and then plates are cleaned with high volume air
to remove moisture and debris prior to entering the blasting chamber.
-
Plates are abrasive cleaned
to SSPC.SP 10/NACE No 2 near white metal specification utilizing a combination
of steel shot and grit to achieve a dense sharp profile of 1.5 – 2.5 mils.
-
Abrasive residue is removed
with brushes and air cannon
-
Blasted plates are preheated
to ensure surface temperature for coating.
-
Plate enters coating booth where automatic application of the Interplate inorganic weldable preconstruction primer coating is applied to 0.6-0.8 dry film thickness. Film thickness is measured using smooth steel control panels. The multiple film thickness measurements are entered into the REDI-PLATETM data
base materials management system. The control panels are retained as a permanent job record.
-
The entire process is monitored
with high definition cameras to view both sides of plates.
-
Quality records are completed
for each shipment.
-
Completed plates may be flame,
plasma or laser cut.
-
The coated plate surface is
inspected for anomalies and the original heat numbers are applied to plate
with paint sticks. The REDI-PLATETM
data base materials management system in combination with site storage
for our diverse computerized customer base allows us to ship as required
on a Just-In-Times basis from our 10 acre, rail served sites.

PROJECT
MANAGEMENT:
Blastech project
management systems ensure that all shop work is performed to meet and exceed
your expectations. We also maintain strict quality control records and
safety surveillance on all projects.
BENEFITS:
-
May be cut by any method. Rolled
and shaped . Welded by any method with approval by the appropriate classification
society.
|
-
Reduces need for post fabrication
blasting by as much as 80%. Savings of 30% have been obtained. VOC and
environmental costs have been virtually eliminated. Welding and cutting
produces fume levels below OSHA limits.
|
-
Eliminates cost of inspection
to ensure plate surface is suitable for use. Eliminates down time waiting
for replacement plates from inventory or mill.
|
|
-
Improved flow through shop.
|
-
Reduces damage by welding, cutting,
etc.
|
-
Provides specified profile for
application of weldable primer and subsequent coats, saving cost of post
fabrication blasting.
|
-
No delamination or breaking
of coating during fabrication, eliminating cost of touch-up.
|
-
Reduces cost and tracking for
special primers for different coatings systems within the same construction
project.
|
-
Improved coating system performance.
|
-
Reduces corrosion rate prior
to finishing.
|
-
Saves the cost of weld splatter
removal.
|
-
Only the weld itself needs to
be surface prepared after fab.
|
-
Reduces cost in tracking plate.
Allows for JIT delivery of plate with REDI-PLATETM
, reducing fabricators' needs for inventory on site.
|
-
Allows fabricator to ensure
that inbound materials meet required standards. Potential for reduction
of incoming inspection costs.
|
-
Eliminates cost of touch-up
of weldable primer.

DRY
PLATE PRESERVATIVE (DPP):
DPP, the abrasive cleaning
and coating of plate with specially formulated inorganic primers prior
to fabrication, is cost effective and environmentally responsible, and
eliminates the use of oil to preserve the abrasive cleaned surface.
Prior to processing the plate,
we enter each plate into a database, recording all plate markings for re-marking
on completion of the process. The plate is abrasive blast cleaned to SSPC-SP10/NACE
No. 2, Near White Metal specification, through horizontal centrifugal blasting
wheels using steel abrasive to provide a controlled profile of 1.5 - 2.5
mils. The steel grit is cleaned and recycled in a closed loop system.
Plates can be cleaned on one side only or both sides as desired.
The fabricator is able to
flame, plasma or laser cut, shape and weld the processed plates to classification
society standards with demonstrable cost benefits obtained from improved
production and minimal surface preparation. The DPP fabricated product
can then be coated with virtually any topcoat system.
Take advantage of this new
service to North America and enjoy the savings associated with the use
of DPP while avoiding the cost of environmental compliance associated with
surface preparation and oils at the fabrication facility,
Benefits of DPP by Blastech:
-
Eliminates blast and oil procedure
-
Eliminates oil contamination
of plate
-
Reduces cost of blasting and
priming plate
-
Eliminates cost of removal of
oils prior to coating
-
Computer controlled application
to ensure a high quality standard
-
Ability to process one side
or both sides of plate
-
Ease of cutting, shaping, welding
and reduction of weld splatter removal cost by the fabricator
-
Reduces need to clean rolling
equipment
