Solvent based inorganic zinc pre-construction primers are widely used in corrosion prevention and are commonly called shop primers or holding primers. These terms are acceptable within the industry but often lead users to believe that they are not to be retained as part of the coating system. Each of the PCP’s offered by most coatings manufacturers is compatible with a variety of top coats. Specifically designed to protect steel during the construction phase of projects solvent based inorganic zinc pre-construction primers can be welded as quickly and easily as bare steel at production line speeds without loss in strength or consistency of the weld. Weld splatter does not adhere to or damage the coating. Offering excellent heat resistance often in excess of 1400 degrees Fahrenheit burn back is minimized and sometimes eliminated. Certain solvent based PCP’s have NSF approval for potable water. Most can be top coated with epoxies, vinyls, acrylics, chlorinated rubbers and silicones.
